The Tax Senior Staff person manages and coordinates tax engagements for a diverse client base, including individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, estates, nonprofit organizations and closely held businesses. You will review complex returns, conduct research, provide proactive planning recommendations and help develop tax staff.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review complex federal and state returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, estates, nonprofits and employee benefit plans.
  • Review staff-prepared returns and provide timely, constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Assist clients with proactive tax planning strategies and business advisory services.
  • Research complex federal and state issues and communicate findings to clients and firm leadership.
  • Assist with entity structures, tax elections, transaction planning and year-round strategy.
  • Participate in client meetings and explain tax matters clearly to business owners and organizational leaders.
  • Maintain engagement records, project notes and client requests in Karbon, Truss and other firm systems.
  • Supervise, mentor and develop Tax Associates and Tax Staff through training and technical review.
  • Ensure tax returns and supporting workpapers are accurate, complete and compliant with applicable requirements.
  • Monitor filing deadlines, extensions, estimated tax payments, notices and correspondence.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities, potential risks and practical recommendations.
  • Prepare technical memoranda and supporting documentation when needed.
  • Serve as a primary contact and build client relationships through responsive, proactive service.
  • Manage workflows, due dates, budgets, realization factors and assignments using firm technology.
  • Support workflow standards, quality-control procedures, automation and process improvement.
  • Respond to tax notices and assist with audits, examinations and information requests.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in Taxation preferred.
  • CPA license preferred; candidates actively pursuing licensure with relevant public-accounting experience will be considered.
  • Enrolled Agent designation will be considered for experienced candidates.
  • Three to five years of public-accounting tax experience preferred.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing complex individual and business tax returns.
  • Experience managing multiple client engagements, priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong technical tax knowledge, research skills and professional judgment.
  • Experience with CCH Axcess Tax preferred.
  • Experience with Karbon or similar workflow-management software preferred.
  • Experience with Truss, document-management systems or client-portal technology preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, project-management and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, mentoring and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive commitment to quality, client service and continuous learning.
