As Tax Director, you will oversee tax compliance, planning and advisory services for your book of business. You will work closely with partners and clients to align tax strategies with client goals while helping lead, mentor and develop the tax team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage tax compliance for individual, corporate, partnership and trust returns across a book of business.
- Provide high-level tax advisory services, strategic planning and consulting for businesses and high-net-worth individuals.
- Identify tax-saving opportunities and present practical recommendations to clients.
- Manage, mentor and develop tax staff through training, feedback and professional growth.
- Coordinate and manage IRS and state tax audits, including negotiations and dispute resolution when needed.
- Maintain quality control in tax deliverables and support compliance with established firm policies.
- Manage the implementation of tax software solutions that improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Oversee and review complex tax returns for compliance with federal, state and local tax regulations.
- Monitor changes in tax law and communicate their effects to clients and the firm.
- Collaborate with partners on business development and opportunities to expand services for existing clients.
- Build and maintain client relationships while serving as a trusted advisor.
- Assist clients with tax notices and correspondence from tax authorities.
- Lead tax planning and projections for multi-entity and complex business structures.
- Active CPA license required.
- 20+ years of progressive tax experience, including 5-10 years in a management or leadership role within public accounting.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state and local tax law for individuals, partnerships, corporations and trusts.
- Demonstrated success in client service and developing lasting client relationships.
- Excellent leadership, team management, communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to explain complex tax matters clearly to non-experts.
- Proven ability to identify tax opportunities and risks and provide strategic recommendations.
- Experience with tax software systems such as CCH Axcess, ProSystem or comparable platforms.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities.
- High integrity and a strong commitment to client confidentiality and service.
